The Grand River Fire Department protects approximately 400 residents and businesses within the Village, as well as responds first-due to an area of Painesville Township, North of State Route 2 with an additional 1500 residents and several industrial streets. The Village is situated in central Lake County, along the western bank of the Grand River. A portion of the Mentor Marsh Nature Preserve lies within the Village, and we respond first-due to the Morton Salt Corporation and Headlands Beach State Park along the shores of Lake Erie.

Chief Robert Lloyd oversees the fire department which is comprised of 30 part-time firefighter/EMTs, the majority of which are certified Paramedics. Most firefighters are career firefighters in other nearby cities. The station is staffed 24 hours a day, providing Fire and Paramedic service. The fire department has an ISO rating of 5, which was improved from a rating of 6 in 1999.
